Clash over taking girl child to mosque in Narsigndi: Injured man dies at hospital
A man, who was injured in a clash between two groups for taking a girl child to a mosque during Tarabih prayers in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi on April 7, died at a hospital Sunday night (April 10, 2022).
The deceased was identified as Lal Chan Mia (28) of Bahadurpur village under North Bakharnagar union. One person was arrested in connetion with the death, said Gobinda Sarkar, inspector (Investigation) of Raipura Police Station, yesterday.
Lal Chan, a farmer by profession, did not take part in the clash but he tried to stop the clash, the police official told our Brahmanbaria correspondent.
"A case has been filed by his family after Lal Chan sustained serious injuries in the clash. The case is now recorded as a murder case. A total of 12 people were charged in the case. Police have so far arrested one person," said the inspector.
According to the case statement, Noor Islam, son of Yusuf Mia of Bahadurpur village, had gone to Bahadurpur Kandapara Jame Masjid to offer Tarabih prayers along with his four-year-old daughter on Thursday (April 7, 2022). Noor Islam made the child stand behind the imam after entering the mosque.
The child's father had a quarrel with Lal Chan's maternal uncle Alauddin over the bring his daughter to the mosque. At the time, Noor Islam's cousin Jewel beat Alauddin. Local people decided that the matter would be resolved later.
Lal Chan went to the spot to enquire about the clash and his uncle. Later, on his way back, some of the opponents blocked his path and stabbed him with a sharp weapon, leaving him injured critically, read the case statement.
He was taken to Raipura Upazila Health Complex, said Gobinda Sarkar, adding that as his condition deteriorated, the doctor on duty at the hospital sent him to Dhaka.
Lal Chan died on Sunday evening while undergoing treatment at Shin Shin Japan Hospital at Uttara, in Dhaka, added the police official.
