Cases against Samrat: Hearing on charge framing scheduled for next year
Two Dhaka courts today adjourned separate petitions on charge framing hearing in two cases filed against expelled Dhaka South Jubo League president Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat under the arms and narcotics control act.
The courts fixed next year's August 23 for hearing on the cases.
The adjournment order came following two separate applications submitted by Samrat's lawyers today.
In the applications, the defence lawyers said they were not prepared to take part in the hearings.
The arms case is now pending with the Dhaka's Special Tribunal-2 while the narcotics case is pending with the Special Tribunal-15 of Dhaka.
During today's hearing, Samrat who is now out on bail in the cases was present.
Earlier on November 6, 2019, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) pressed charges against Samrat, an alleged kingpin of the illegal casino business in Dhaka, in an arms case.
The elite force on December 9, 2019, pressed charges against him in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act. Samrat's accomplice Enamul Haque Arman was also charged in the same case.
