Case filed against UNO for torching 4 excavators in Cumilla
An aggrieved person today filed a case against the Chauddagram Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) with a Cumilla court as the UNO torched four excavators on January 19 during a mobile court drive.
AKM Solemi of Jugirkandi village filed the case against UNO SM Manzurul Haque with Cumilla Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court-5 today, reports our Cumilla correspondent quoting Court Inspector Salauddin Al Mahmud.
Taking the case into cognizance, Judge Begum Farhana Sultana of the court ordered the Police Bureau of Investigation to investigate the case, informed the court inspector.
The plaintiff's lawyer Masud Salahuddin said the UNO with the instigation of vested quarters vandalised four excavators (worth Tk one crore) and torched those on January 19 during a mobile court drive.
The Daily Star correspondent could not reach Chauddagram UNO SM Manzurul Haque over mobile phone for comments despite repeated attempts.
On January 19, on the allegation of excavating a land illegally, Chauddagram UNO SM Manzurul Haque conducted a mobile court drive at Jugirkandi village and torched four excavators and fined two persons for Tk 6 lakh.
The plaintiff claimed that the excavators were rented by the villagers for expanding a graveyard.
