Buddhist monk found dead in Khagrachhari

A Buddhist monk was found dead in Ghukrachhari Dharmasukh Bouddha Bihar of Khagrachhari Sadar upazila this morning.

Deceased Bishudha Mahathero (52) had no enmity with anyone, our bandarban correspondent reports quoting devotees.

Aung Kroy Marma, a villager, said that she found Bishudha lying in a pool of blood when she went to serve him food in the Kyang temple around 7:30 am.

Md Rashid, officer-in-charge of Khagrachhari Sadar Police Station, said, "We recovered the monk's body and sent it to Khagrachhari Sadar Hospital for autopsy."

"It is not clear yet why the monk was murdered. We are investigating the case with seriously," the OC said.

Mohammad Abdul Aziz, superintendent of police in Khagrachhari said, "We found an injury mark on his head. Two almirah of the temple were open at the time we recovered the body," the SP said.

Motilal Marma, a villager of Gukrachhari Paimong Member Para, said, "For the last seven years, Bishudha was the chief monk of our temple. He always was busy with religious rituals, prayers and meditation in the temple."

Proggabongsho Mahathero, another monk of the area, said, "Bishudha preached Buddhism in different temples of Chattogram Hill Tracts (CHT) for the last around 30 years."
