BNP leader's brother arrested in Tk 326cr embezzlement case

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members arrested Jasim Uddin Chowdhury, brother of BNP leader Aslam Chowdhury and director of Rising Steel Limited, in a case filed over embezzling Tk 326 crore from AB Bank.
He was arrested during a drive at Mohammad Ali Bazar area under Feni Model Police Station in Feni early today. He is the brother of BNP national executive committee member Aslam Chowdhury.
According to a Rab press release, Rising Steel Limited is one of the top 20 loan defaulters. The loan defaulters' list was published in the parliament on January 24. Since then, Rab started investigation against the defaulters, our Chattogram staff correspondent reports.
Rab-7 Senior Assistant Director (media) Nurul Absar said that during a primary investigation, information about a case over embezzling Tk 325.77 crore from the private bank AB Bank, was found against Rising Steel Limited Director Jasim Uddin.
The case was filed by Anti-Corruption Commission on July 17, 2016 with Halishahar Police Station. The case is now under trial at Chattogram Special Judge's Court.
The ACC filed a charge sheet accusing Jasim Uddin Chowdhury in 2017. He was in hiding since the charge sheet was placed before the court, Rab official Nurul Absar said.
