Being married off without consent, girl goes to Chuadanga police station
A school student went to Chuadanga Sadar Police Station today to save herself from being married off without consent.
She also filed a written complaint with the police, requesting that the arrangements to marry her off against her will be halted, reports our Kushtia correspondent quoting police.
Quoting the written statement, Chuadanga Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC), Mohammad Mohsin, said that the 16-year-old is a class 10 student at Jhinuk Secondary Girls' School.
Her aunt and mother recently put pressure on her to get married. Despite the teenager's repeated explanation and rejection, they were adamant in their decision, the OC said.
After a police team visited the girl's home this afternoon and explained the situation to her parents, they reversed their decision and agreed to let her continue her education, said the OC.
The teen came to police after being inspired by a recent incident in which police stopped another child marriage in the same area, said the OC.
