Beating up journos for Hero Alom reporting: Jubo League man held

Police today arrested a local Jubo League leader in a case filed for assaulting two journalists who covered a press conference, arranged by Ashraful Hossain Alam, popularly known as Hero Alom.

Alom had arranged the press conference to share his reaction to the by-election results held on February 1.

Shariful Islam Shipul, vice president of Bogura district unit's proposed committee of Jubo League, was arrested from Thana Road area around 2:00 pm after a case was filed against him in this regard, said Noor-e-Alam Siddiqui, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.

He will be produced before the district court tomorrow, the OC told our Bogura correspondent.

The two journalists who were assaulted are JM Rauf, Bogura district correspondent of Bangla daily Kaler Kantho and Johurul Islam, a senior journalist of local daily Dainik Bogura.

According to the victims, Hero Alom arranged a press conference at night after he lost to AL grand alliance candidate AKM Rezaul Karim Tansen by 834 votes in the Bogura-4 by-polls.

Jubo leader Shipul beat up the two journalists and verbally abused them when they were covering the live press briefing at Bogura town club around 11:30pm, they added.
