BCL leader Diaz murder: Ctg court orders further probe
A court in Chattogrom yesterday ordered Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to further investigate the murder case of Bangladesh Chhatra League central leader Diaz Irfan Chowdhury.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Awlad Hossain Junaid ordered PBI to have the case investigated by a senior officer, after Diaz's mother Jaheda Amin lodged a non-confidence petition on the final report submitted by Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
"Following the petition, the court passed the order," said Public Prosecutor Advocate Iftekhar Saimul Chowdhury.
After investigating the case for six years, CID, in its final submitted report on February 24, said the murder case of BCL central leader Diaz Irfan Chowdhury has a "factual error".
Assistant Superintendent of Police Abdus Salam Mia of CID Chattogram, also the investigation officer of the case, placed the final report to the court terming that Diaz died by suicide after being triggered by mental pressure and a failed relationship.
However, Diaz's family declined the claim.
Diaz was found in his flat near the Chittagong University campus on November 20, 2016. His family then filed a murder case against 10 BCL members of its CU unit and a former assistant proctor of the university.
