Bashundhara MD will be questioned if investigators deem necessary: PBI chief
Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir will be interrogated if investigators deem it necessary for the probe into a case filed against him over the rape and killing of a college student in Gulshan this April.
"The investigation team is working on it... If they think, he (Anvir) will be interrogated," Banaj Kumar Majumder, chief of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), said this at a press conference in his Dhanmondi office today.
He said this in response to a journalist's question about whether PBI will arrest Anvir in the case.
On September 6, the victim's elder sister filed the case with the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-8 of Dhaka against Anvir over the rape and murder of the college student.
Chairman of the group, Ahmed Akbar Sobhan alias Shah Alam, and six others were also made accused in the case on the charge of abetting the crime.
The six other accused are Shah Alam's wife Afroza Begum, Anvir's wife Sabrina Sayem, model Faria Mahbub Piyasha, Saifa Rahman Mim, the Gulshan flat's landlord Ibrahim Ahmed Ripon and his wife Sharmim.
The tribunal asked PBI to investigate the case.
Anvir has recently sought anticipatory bail from the High Court in the case.
The HC bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice KM Zahid Sarwar Kajol is scheduled to hold a hearing of the petition on September 29.
