Bangladeshi shot dead by BSF in Rajshahi’s border area, locals claim
Bullet-hit body of a Bangladeshi was found along Indian border, in Paba upazila of Rajshahi, early today.
The victim was Md Mithun Ali (25), son of Manjur Hossain of the area under Paba upazila, said Lt Col Sabbir Ahmed, director of Rajshahi battalion of Border Guard Bangladesh.
Informed by locals, BGB men rushed to the spot and found the body in Char Majhardiar area – 200-400 metre from the border -- around 6am, the official said.
He said they handed the body over to police for investigation.
Mahbubur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Damkura Police Station said, they sent the body to hospital morgue for autopsy.
Seeking anonymity, some police and BGB officials in Rajshahi said that their primary findings showed Mithun's death was due to gunshots from Indian Border Security Force.
They said law enforcers have gathered evidence that Mithun tried to cross the border illegally when he was shot.
Local government leaders and villagers also echoed the law enforcers.
Bazle Rizvi Hasan Munjil, chairman of Haripur union parishad, said, "All villagers gathered there (spot) and told me that the man was killed by BSF."
Hundreds of villagers rushed to the spot, hearing gunshots from the Indian side and found Mithun's body in a pool of blood, he told our Rajshahi staff correspondent.
When BGB and police went to the scene to recover the body, an intensified BSF patrol was noticed in the Indian side, he said.
The chairman said Mithun used to traffic cattle across the border.
