Attempt to prevent mugging: 1 dead, another injured in Dhaka
A man died and another was injured after miscreants stabbed them when they were trying to prevent a mugging in Dhaka's Kotwali Thana area early today.
The deceased was identified as Alamgir Hossain (40), a day labour. Injured Anwar Hossain (38) is receiving treatment at Mitford Hospital.
The incident took place around 4:00am when the victims along with several others were working at a scrap material shop in Balurghat area.
A man from nearby area rushed to them and sought help, saying muggers took his money and travel documents. As they chased the muggers and attempted to catch one, miscreants stabbed the duo -- leaving them injured, he said.
Alamgir was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital immediately with stab injuries in his chest, neck and hands. He breathed his last at 1:00pm while being treated there, said Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH Police Outpost.
Hailing from Shariatpur district, Alamgir used to live at Jinjira in Keraniganj. His four children live with his wife back in their village home.
The muggers fled after the incident. Police are trying to arrest them.
