A policeman, who was injured in an attack by fishermen while enforcing a ban on hilsa fishing in October, died at a city hospital on Wednesday night.

Kabir Hossain (42), a constable of River Police, died at the National Institute of Neurosciences & Hospital. He was receiving treatment there for over a month, a press release issued by Police Headquarters said yesterday.

Kabir along with four other policemen was injured when local fishermen reportedly attacked them at Char Abdullahpur in Munshiganj on October 21, when a ban on hilsa fishing was going on.

Hailing from Patuakhali, Kabir left behind his wife, a son and a daughter to mourn his death.

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed expressed deep shock at the death.
