Attack by fishermen during hilsa ban: Injured policeman dies at hospital

A policeman, who was injured in an attack by fishermen while enforcing a ban on hilsa fishing in October, died at a city hospital last night.

The deceased, Kabir Hossain (42), a constable of River Police died at the National Institute of Neurosciences & Hospital while receiving treatment for over a month, a press release issued by Police Headquarters said today.

Kabir along with four other policemen was injured when local fishermen reportedly attacked them at Char Abdullahpur in Munshiganj on October 21, when a ban on hilsa fishing was going on.

Hailing from Patuakhali district, Kabir left behind a wife, a son and a daughter to mourn his death.

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of the police personnel.
