Assaulting police: Arrest warrants issued against Rizvi, 5 other BNP leaders
A Dhaka court today issued arrest warrants against six BNP leaders, including Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu, in a case filed over assaulting police.
After accepting charges against 18 BNP leaders, including the six, Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court of Dhaka issued the arrant warrants.
The judge directed the officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station to submit by December 12 the reports on execution of the arrest warrants.
Among the accused, BNP leaders Khairul Kabir Khokon, Sultan Salauddin Tuku, Fazlul Haque Milon, Sarafat Ali Safu and seven others are now on bail while Ishaq Ali Sarkar is in jail custody.
According to the prosecution, it was alleged that a group of BNP leaders and activists led by Rizvi brought out a procession in front of National Press Club on March 8 of 2018, demanding release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
At one stage, they threw bricks at on-duty policemen, injuring several of them.
Following the incident, police filed a case against 29 people, including Rizvi, with Shahbagh Police Station in this regard.
After an investigation, detectives pressed charges against the BNP leaders and activists on January 31 this year.
