Another suspect of Tipu murder arrested in arms case, placed on remand

A Dhaka court today placed Arfan Ullah Damal, a suspect in the murder of two people, including former general secretary of Motijheel Awami League Jahidul Islam Tipu, on a one-day remand in an arms case.
Damal was held from the capital's Kamalapur last night with a revolver. Later a case under the Arms Act was filed against him with Motijheel Police Station.
Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Yasmin Ara passed the order after Md Ershad Hossain, a Sub-inspector of Detective Branch of Police and also investigation officer of the case, produced him with a 10-day remand prayer, our court correspondent reports.
In the prayer, SI Ershad said Damal had a link with the double murder and if he is interrogated, vital clues may be unearthed.
Tipu was gunned down on the night of March 24 under a flyover in Dhaka's Shahjahanpur.
Samia Afnan Prity, a 22-year-old student of Begum Badrunnesa Government Girls' College, was killed when a stray bullet hit her.
Masum Mohammad alias Akash, the prime suspect in the double murder, was earlier arrested and he was being interrogated.
