‘AC mechanic stabbed woman to death in front of her children’
Police arrested three persons, including an air-conditioner technician, on charge of murdering a woman in Dhaka's Sabujbagh area last Saturday (March 26, 2022).
The arrestees are: Bappi (31), the AC technician, and his associates Sumon Hossain Ridoy and Rubel (42).
A team of police first arrested Bappi from Jhalakathi last night and the others from Dhaka's Rampura based on his information, Abdul Ahad, deputy commissioner of Motijheel Division Police, told a press briefing today.
The trio entered the house of Tania Afroz Mukta with the excuse of servicing an AC and attempted to steal cash and gold ornaments from the closet when she was in the kitchen, he said.
As the woman saw them ransacking the closet and screamed for help, Bappi grabbed her and stabbed her with a machete he was carrying, the DC said.
As the victim's three-year-old daughter Maimuna screamed, seeing her mother bleeding, the accused gagged the child and her 10-month-old brother Tanvir with duct-tape, the DC said quoting the arrestees.
The arrestees later made away with gold and cash from the house, the police officer said, adding that they so far recovered two gold chains and an ear ring from the arrestees.
Abdul Ahad said Bappi installed the AC in the house a year ago and he knew that Tania's husband Mainul Islam, a medical technician, is posted in Faridpur.
While Tania bled to death on the floor, Maimuna, with her hands, mouth and neck bound with duct tape, managed to open the main door and walk over to the opposite flat and informed the neighbours about the incident.
