Police station attacked after Abu Taw Haa didn't speak at Faridpur waz

After Islamic speaker Abu Taw Haa Muhammad Adnan did not speak at a waz mahfil in Faridpur, protesters attacked the Karimpur Highway Police Station last night.
To bring the situation under control, police fired 22 shotgun rounds. Police are also preparing to file a case in this regard.
From 9:30 pm last night till midnight, the incident occurred at Amjad Sardar's jute mill field on the south side of the Dhaka-Khulna highway, in Ladhipur area of Kanaipur union under Faridpur Sadar upazila.
Abu Taw Haa was scheduled to speak at the event, reports our local correspondent.
According to locals, due to the administration's objections, it was announced around 9:30 pm that Abu Taw Haa would not speak at the programme. The waz mahfil was later declared over. Around 10,000 people were present at the time. Some in the audience became outraged after the announcement.
Protesters gathered on the side of the Dhaka-Khulna highway to protest, disrupting traffic. A small number of protestors attacked the Karimpur Highway Police Station, attackers threw bricks and broke the windows of two police cars and an ambulance.
"Police fired shotguns to bring the situation under control," Faridpur Additional Superintendent of Police, Sumon Ranjan Sarkar, said.
Three police officers were injured in the incident, he said, adding that the situation in the area is calm at present. Police are patrolling the area.
He further said that the Officer-in-Charge of Karimpur Highway Police Station, Abdullah Al Mamun Shah, is preparing to file a case in this regard.
Rakib Al Hasan Sardar, who was in charge of organising the waz mahfil, said that the police had agreed to let them hold the event on a smaller scale.
He went on to say that the waz mahfil organisers had nothing to do with those who attacked the outpost and blocked the road. By reviewing the station's CCTV footage, police will be able to identify and detain the attackers.
