9 sentenced to death, 22 get life term for killing BCL leader in Rajshahi

A Rajshahi court today sentenced nine people to death and 22 to life imprisonment in the murder case of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader, Shahen Shah.

Rajshahi Metropolitan Session Judge's Court announced the verdict today, reports our Rajshahi staff correspondent quoting public prosecutor of Judicial Court, Advocate Mosabbirul Islam.

The nine convicts given death sentence are: Md Monsur Rahman, Hasanuzzaman Himel, Taufiqul Islam Chand, Md Mohasin, Md Sairul, Rajab, Biplob, Md Momin, and Md Ariful Islam.

Shahen Shah was a trainee lawyer and the former general secretary of Rajshahi Court College BCL. He was the younger brother of Rajshahi City Corporation's ward no 1 councilor, Rajab Ali.

According to the case statement, on August 28, 2013, Shahen Shah was killed in an attack by miscreants.

Nahid Akter Nahan, a Jubo League leader, filed a murder case with Rajpara Police Station in Rajshahi the next day.

The case's investigation officer, SI Moniruzzaman of the same police station, filed a charge sheet in court against 31 people.
