7 arrested over murder of Bogura AL leader Rocky
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-12) today arrested seven men, including prime accused Gausul Azam, in a case filed over murder of Bogura Awami League leader Mominur Islam Rocky.
Rab made the arrests from Badarganj upazila of Rangpur and Fapor union area under Bogura Sadar upazila, reports our Bogura correspondent.
Primarily, Mehedi Hasan (18), Arifur Rahman (28), Ali Hasan (28), Fazle Rabbi (30) and Abdul Ahad (20) were arrested from Badargonj. "Based on their information, we later arrested the prime accused Gausul Azam (28) and Fuad Hasan Manik (29) from Fapor High School grounds around 5:00 am this morning," said Lt Commander Abdullah Al-Mamun, commanding officer of Rab-12.
"A foreign-made pistol, one magazine, three rounds of bullets and a machete were seized from Gausul at the time," he said.
"During primary interrogation, the accused admitted to killing Rocky as they saw him as a threat to their drug trade and extortion racket, added the Rab CO.
"The arrestees were later handed over to Bogura Sadar Police Station from where they were sent to court," said Abul Kalam Azad, inspector (investigation) of Sadar Police Station.
Rocky (32), general secretary of Fapor union unit of Awami League, was attacked by 15-20 youths with sharp weapons at a local bazar where he died on the spot on July 27, said police.
His younger brother Ruku Islam on Thursday filed a murder case against 10 named and 12 unnamed youths for killing his brother.
Earlier, police arrested another accused in the case and a two-day remand was granted by a Bogura court against him, said Sub-inspector Md Jahurul Islam, also the investigation officer of the case.
