6 detained from Rangpur hospital in connection with ‘oxygen cylinder smuggling’
Six people were detained from Rangpur Medical College Hospital in connection with allegedly smuggling oxygen cylinder this afternoon.
The six detainees--three drivers and three helpers—suspected to be members of a group that smuggles oxygen cylinders came to the hospital from Dinajpur to take oxygen cylinder on three trucks, said a press release signed by Maidul Islam Pradhan, senior information officer of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
They said they would take the oxygen cylinders to different Covid-19 designated hospitals in Dhaka, the release added.
The detainees have primarily told police that a physician named Rezaul Karim sent them to the hospital to collect the oxygen cylinder.
They presented three invoices to the in-charge of the hospital. But the in-charge of the hospital got suspicious and informed the hospital authorities and in-charge of the hospital's police outpost.
Police are now questioning them.
