5 arrested over murder of Jubo League man in Bagerhat
Police have arrested five accused in a case filed over murder of a Jubo League activist in Mongla of Bagerhat.
They were arrested around noon from in front of Mongla Upazila Health Complex, our Bagerhat correspondent reports.
Quader Sardar, brother of deceased Motahar Sardar, filed a murder case with Mongla police Station accusing named 21 people including local union member, Abdullah Sheikh, and 10-12 unidentified people.
The arrestees are Halim Sheikh (38), Hossain Hawlader (20), Asmaul Sheikh (20), Rubel Hawlader (26), and Sarwar Sheikh. All of them are residents of Bakultala village in the upazila.
Motahar, a member of a group of one Farid Sheikh, was killed in an attack by his rival group led by Abdullah Sheikh, a member of Ward No 3 under Sonailtola on Tuesday night (April 5, 2022). At least 11 people were injured on both sides.
The incident took place when both groups were trying to occupy a shrimp farm in the locality.
Mongla Police Station Officer-in-charge (OC) Mohammad Monirul Islam said that five arrestees are named accused in the case.
The accused were sent to jail by a local court. Police operation on to arrest the other accused, the OC said.
