4 held over provoking man to die by suicide

The Rapid Action Battalion arrested four members of a family in Savar's Hemayetpur area on Friday evening in a case over provoking a youth named Firoz to die by suicide.

The arrestees are: Imroz's father-in-law Shahjahan Islam Badal, 50, wife Shamima Yasmin Sathi, 23, relatives Imdadul Haque, 35, and Bithi Akhter, 30, all residents of Hashim village in Rangpur's Pirgacha upazila.

Rab-4 Company Commander Rakib Mahmud Khan confirmed this to The Daily Star.

While committing suicide on Facebook Live by taking poison on February 12, Imroz blamed some members of his in-laws' family, including the father-in-law, for his death, said Rab.

During interrogation, the arrestees admitted that they were involved in provoking Imroz to die by suicide, the elite force added.
