4 held for gang rapes in two dists

Four men have been arrested over two gang rapes in Chuadanga and Chattogram since Wednesday.

In Chuadanga's Alamdanga upazila, police arrested Mizanur Rahman Kalu, 40, key accused in a case filed over a gang-rape in the upazila. 

Mizanur and seven others allegedly gang-raped a mother of two on Tuesday, luring her with promises of a job.

Alamgir Kabir, officer-in-charge of Alamdanga Police Station, said the victim was in dire need of the job after she started staying separately from her husband with two children.

Citing the case statement, the OC also said that the woman went to meet Mizanur for this purpose at Asmankhali Bazar in the upazila. There, she was gang-raped by Mizanur and seven others. 

Around 7:00pm on Wednesday, the victim filed a case against eight men with the police station.

The rest of the accused are Mulam Hossain, 50, Hasan Ali, 40, of Shalika village; Ripon Ali alias Lipon, 35, of Bandarvita village; Nazirul Islam, 25, Habu Hossain, 42, of Maheshpur village; Hamidul Islam, 34, of Nandbar village; and another unidentified person.

Mizanur was produced before Chuadanga Chief Judicial Magistrate Court and the court sent him to jail, the OC added.

Meanwhile, in Chattogram city, police yesterday arrested three persons on charges of raping a minor girl.

The arrestees are Mehedi Hasan Munna, 19, Mohammad Sakib, 21, and, Hasan Tarek, 40, said police.

Abul Kashem Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge of Double Mooring Police Station, said the 14-year-old victim got lost in a crowd in Sitakunda upazila's Agrabad area on September 5. She went there to visit a doctor with her sister-in-law.

Mehedi Hasan Munna found the girl and took her to a house in Kalu Shah Shrine area by a CNG-run three-wheeler. There, he and two others raped the girl, he added.

The victim's family members filed a complaint with the police station on Wednesday. On information, police conducted a drive and arrested the trio.
