4 arrested over land dispute in Panchagarh that killed 1 person, injured 10 others

Four people have been arrested today in a case filed over a clash centering a land dispute that killed one person and injured ten others at Kismat Haripur village in Boda upazila of Panchagarh on Tuesday.    

The deceased was identified as Rabin Chandra Adhikary (52), our Thakurgaon correspondent reports quoting Jahidul Islam, sub-inspector of Boda Police Station.

Police arrested the four after a murder case was filed against 13 people today with Boda Police Station by the victim's father Bidyamahan Adhikary.

The arrestees are--Jogesh Chandra Roy (35), Nitai Roy (30), Indro Mahan Roy (37) and Sunti Rani (30).

Police said Jagesh Chandra Roy and his brothers had a dispute with Bidyamahan Adikary of the same village over a piece of land (1.68-acre) for a long time.

When Jagesh Chandra and his brothers went to plough the land on Tuesday, Bidyamahan Adhikary with his sons rushed to the spot to resist them leading to a clash, leaving ten persons of both sides injured, the SI Jahidul said.

Locals rescued the injured and brought them to Boda Upazila Health Complex where Rabin and his nephew Tilak Chandra were transferred to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital after their condition deteriorated, added the SI.

Later, Rabin was shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital on the same night where he succumbed to his injuries.

The arrestees were sent to jail through a Panchagarh court this evening, the SI said, adding that drives are on to nab the rest accused.
