3 stabbed during UP polls campaign in Jashore

Supporters of Awami League candidate of upcoming union parishad elections stabbed three supporters of an independent candidate at Lakkhanpur union of Sharsha upazila in Jashore today, police say.
The injured are Shaheen Kadir (26), Tota Miah (40) and Omar Faruk (30), reports our Benapole correspondent quoting Badrul Alam Khan, officer-in-charge of Sharsha Police Station.
The incident took place at Colonypara of Lakkhanpur union this morning. Of them, Faruk's condition is critical, said police.
Independent candidate Shamsur Rahman claimed that a group, led by former chairman and AL nominated candidate's supporter Kamal Bhuiyan, launched an attack and stabbed three of his activists while they were returning home after concluding an election campaign at Colonypara.
The attackers fled with motorcycles when locals came out hearing the screams of the injured, he said, adding that the injured were admitted at Sharsha Upazila Health Complex.
Shamsur Rahman further added that he was being threatened in multiple ways to make him withdraw his name from elections.
Terming the incident as a misunderstanding, the AL-backed candidate Anowara Khatun said the incident happened as the supporters of independent candidate chanted various slogans against her.
She said they will sit together and resolve the issue.
OC Badrul said the independent candidate filed a complaint with the police facility regarding the incident.
Police will take necessary action to arrest the attackers, added the OC.
