3 get death penalty for kidnap, murder of 3-yr-old girl

A Narayanganj court today sentenced three men to death for killing a three-year-old girl after kidnapping her in Rupganj upazila in 2018.

Narayanganj Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Nazmul Haque Shyamol handed down the verdict in the presence of the convicts, reports our Narayanganj correspondent quoting Public Prosecutor Rakibuddin Ahmed.

The convicts are Md Shahjalal, 25, Jakir Hossain, 36, and Md Ashraful, 23.

The victim's father Anowar Hossain expressed satisfaction over the verdict and demanded that the verdict be implemented at the earliest.

According to case documents, on October 18, 2018, the three abducted Jui Akter of Tekpara area in Rupganj from in front of her home.

Then they demanded a ransom of Tk 10 lakh from the family. The family members agreed to pay Tk 5 lakh but the next morning, Jui's body was found in a sand pile close to her home.

Her hands and feet were tied and the body was in a sack.

Later, Anowar filed a murder case with Rupganj Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

The convicts were tenants of the plaintiff.

Six people, including the investigating officer and the coroner, testified during the trial, said PP Rakibuddin.
