Three frauds -- referring to themselves as "Jiner Badsha" (master of Jinn) and luring people with promises of secret wealth -- were sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for life in a case filed over raping a mother and her daughter in 2018 in Gaibandha's Gobindaganj upazila.

Judge Md. Abdur Rahman, of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2, Gaibandha announced the verdict this afternoon, reports our Bogura correspondent.

The convicts are Belal Hossain (40) and Emdadul Haque (42) of Gosaipur village and Khaja Mia (45) of Shyampur village under Gobindaganj upazila. The charge-sheeted accused in the case who were acquitted are Asadul Islam and Azizul of Hatiyadoh village of the same upazila, said AKM Mohibul Haque, special public prosecutor of the tribunal.

The court also fined each convict Tk 1,00,000. Judge Abdur Rahman announced the verdict in presence of the convicts, said the SPP.

According to the case statement, the accused were members of fraud groups, locally called "Jiner Badsha". The lured the woman and her daughter from Jamalpur's Sharishabari upazila -- with promises of secret wealth -- on May 12, 2018.

When the mother and daughter duo got off the bus at Balua Bazar, under Gobindaganj upazila, that night, the accused took them to a remote area near Katakhali river. They raped the mother and daughter and fled from the spot.

The woman later filed a rape case with Gobindaganj police station.
