3 brothers sentenced to death for killing father

A Cumilla court today sentenced three brothers to death for killing their father in 2013 for not registering land in their names.

Judge Rujina Khan of the Third Additional District and Sessions Court pronounced the verdict, Court Inspector Mujibur Rahman told The Daily Star.

The court also fined the three brothers -- Md Fayez Ullah, Md Whid Ullah and Md Shahid Ullah of Kandi village in Monohorganj upazila -- Tk 20,000 each, reports our Cumilla correspondent.

The judge delivered the verdict in the convicts' absence.

Additional Public Prosecutor Nurul Islam said the father, Abdul Karim, was killed by his sons on August 26, 2013 for not registering land in their names.

After that incident, Abdul Karim's second wife Mosammat Safia Khatun filed a murder case against eight persons including the three sons.
