3 brothers among 7 get life in prison

A Kishoreganj court today sentenced seven people including three brothers to life in prison for killing farmer Akhtaruzzaman in Kishoreganj's Pakundia upazila in 2018.

The three convicted brothers are Asad Mia, 40, Kashem Mia, 50, and Falan Mia, 45.

The four others are Al Amin, 25, Enamul Haque, 20, Sumon Mia, 25, and Masud Mia, 28.

Md Saydur Rahman Khan, senior district and sessions judge, gave the verdict. The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each in default of which they will serve six more months in jail, said Abu Bakar Siddiq, court inspector in Kishoreganj.

According to the case statement, Akhtaruzzaman was attacked with sharp weapons when he was returning home on December 27 night in 2018. He was taken to Kishoreganj General Hospital first and then referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital the following day.

He died on the way.

The victim's wife Ashrafunnahar filed the case with Pakundia Police Station on December 28 accusing the seven.

After investigation, police submitted a charge-sheet against them on July 9, 2019. After examining witnesses and evidence, the court handed down the verdict.
