27-year-old arrested over rape, murder of schoolgirl in Sherpur
Members of the Rapid Action Battalion today (July 27, 2022) arrested a 27-year-old man in a case filed over the rape and murder of a 12-year-old schoolgirl in Jhinaigabhi upazila of Sherpur.
The accused rapist is Al Amin, a resident of the upazila. He was arrested from his home early today, said Ashikuzzaman, squadron leader of Rab-14 in Jamalpur, at a press briefing this noon.
Al Amin abducted the victim on the night of July 24 and took her to the bank of Kalghosha River in the upazila where he raped her and then strangled her to death, the Rab official said.
After the murder, he allegedly put the victim's body in a sack and dumped it in a pond in Bakakura village under Kangsha union in the upazila.
The victim's father filed a case accusing unnamed persons in this connection at Jhinaigabhi Police Station. Later Rab-14 began an investigation into the incident and identified the accused rapist using technology, the Rab official added.
Al Amin was later handed over to Jhinaigabhi police and then produced before a Sherpur court, said Monirul Islam Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge of the police station.
