2006 Double Murder: SC acquits two death-row convicts
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court yesterday acquitted two accused, who have been serving in the condemn cell for 14 years after being sentenced to death, in a case filed for killing a mother and her daughter in Godagari upazila of Rajshahi in 2006.
The apex court ordered the jail authorities to release Sonardi and Ismail Hossain Babu.
It also commuted death sentence of another, Tarikul Islam Vuta, to life imprisonment.
A three-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique delivered the verdict after hearing on three appeals.
Minara Khatun (30) and her nine-year-old daughter Saria Parvin were killed at Dhoa Joubanpara in Godagari on October 20, 2006.
