2002 attack on Hasina’s motorcade in Satkhira: Fugitive convict arrested in Dhaka
Detectives have arrested a convict in a case filed over the attack on the motorcade of the then opposition leader and current Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Satkhira 19 years ago.
A team of detective branch (DB) of Motijheel division arrested Tarikuzzaman alias Kanak from Mirpur on Sunday afternoon, Iftekhairul Islam, additional deputy commissioner (media wing) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said.
Tarikuzzaman had long been on the run, police said.
A Satkhiracourt in February this year sentence 50 people, including former BNP lawmaker Habibul Islam Habib of Satkhira-1 constituency, to different term of imprisonment over their role in the attack in 2002.
During the verdict, 34 of them were present in the courtroom while the rest were on the run.
