2 women trafficked to India return home after a year
Two young Bangladeshi women who were trafficked to India returned through the Benapole check post after one year today.
The Petrapole Immigration Police of India formally handed them over to the Benapole Immigration Police this morning, on a special travel permit, reports our Benapole correspondent.
Aged 19 and 20, their homes are in Sirajganj and Jashore districts.
"Traffickers took them to Mumbai by luring them with offers of well-paying jobs. But they were forced to work in hazardous conditions, instead. Mumbai police detained them based on a tip-off," said Ahsan Habib, officer-in-charge (OC) of Benapole Immigration Police.
"Later, a private NGO took them into their custody and put them in a shelter. A year later, home ministries of both countries repatriated them with travel permits," he said.
The two women were handed over to an NGO, Justice and Care, after the immigration formalities and later were taken to a hotel in Benapole for a 14-day quarantine period.
