2 on remand in rape case

A Narsingdi court yesterday placed two men on a one-day remand each in a case filed over the gang-rape of a woman in Palash upazila.

The accused, Rajib Mia, 30, and Rifat Hossain alias Zafar, 20, both residents of Ghorashal municipality, were arrested in raids on Saturday night, said Mohammad Elias, officer-in-charge of Palash Police Station.

The OC added that the accused raped a woman near Ghorashal train station on Saturday evening while holding her husband hostage.

Police rescued the woman and arrested the suspects after her husband called 999, the national emergency helpline.
