Two people were killed in a "shootout" with members of Rab in Bhola early yesterday.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately, said Saiful Islam, superintendent of police of Bhola.

Shakhawat Hossain, officer-in-charge of South Aicha Police Station, said the "shootout" took place between a group of robbers and members of Rapid Action Battalion around 4:00am at Char Kukrimukri area under Char Fashion upazila.

The robbers opened fire on Rab members, who retaliated with gunshots, leaving two persons dead on the spot, he claimed.

Three locally made guns and a machete were recovered from the spot.

Police were set to take the bodies to Bhola Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
