2 to die, 4 get life term for killing driver in Manikganj
A Manikganj court today sentenced two people to death and four to life term imprisonment for killing a private car driver in Ghior upazila in 2011.
The death row convicts are Omar Hossain Saiful and Arifuzzaman Sajib while the four other convicts, who were sent to life term jail, are Abdullah Al Mamun, Farhad Hossain, Mohammad Ali Simanto and Azim Khan. Of the convicts, Saiful, Sajib and Simanto are now absconding.
All the convicts hail from Nagarpur of Tangail, reports our Mnaikganj correspondent.
Utpal Bhattacharya, Judge of Namikganj Additional District and Sessions Judge's Court, pronounced the verdict this afternoon, the court sources said.
The court also fined them Tk 50,000 each.
According to the prosecution, on January 28, 2011, the accused strangled private car driver Jahangir Alam to death in Kusanda area of Ghior upazila under Manikganj and fled with the car.
Jahangir was son of Mokhlesur Rahman of Mymensingh's Haluaghat.
On information, police recovered the body. Later, six persons were arrested after Sub-inspector Lutfar Rahman of Ghior Police Station filed a murder case.
On February 26, 2012, SI Enamul Haque Chowdhury of the Ghior Police Station submitted a charge sheet to court against the six accused.
After examining 16 witnesses and documents, the judge today handed down the verdict in the presence of three accused out of the six.
