2 BNP leaders get bail while Rizvi, Annie sent to jail

A Dhaka court today granted bail to two BNP leaders arrested yesterday, but sent Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie and others to jail in cases filed with Paltan and Motijheel police stations.
The leaders who got bail are Aman Ullah Aman, convener of BNP's Dhaka south city unit, and Abdul Quader Bhuiyan Jewel, executive committee member, in the case filed with Paltan Police Station.
However, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Tofazzal Hossain rejected bail plea of BNP leaders Rizvi, Annie, Shamsur Rahman, Khairul Kabir Khokon and sent them to jail along with 434 others.
The magistrate also placed 23 BNP men on two-day remands after they were produced before the court with a seven-day remand appeal in the two cases.
Police produced 450 accused in the case filed with Paltan Police Station, and 20 in connection with the case filed with Motitjheel Police Station.
Court sources said this is the first ever instance in Bangladesh of 470 accused being produced before a court in a day.
They were detained by police following a clash between law enforcers and BNP men in front of the party's Nayapaltan headquarters yesterday afternoon.
