2 associates of Helena Jahangir arrested from Dhaka's Gabtoli
Rab arrested two associates of businessperson turned politician Helena Jahangir on charge of "spreading propaganda and misleading information" on digital platforms to defame important personalities and state agencies.
A team of Rab conducted a raid at Gabtoli area last night and arrested them, ANM Imran Khan, Rab's legal and media wing director, told The Daily Star.
They are: Hazera Khatun, general manager of Joyjatra IPTV (owned by Helena Jahangir), and its coordinator Sanaullah Nuri.
The duo were arrested in a case Rab filed under Digital Security Act with Gulshan Police Station after nabbing Helena from her Gulshan residence on Thursday night, Rab said.
With the DSA case, Helena was so far sued in four cases.
Rab will hold a press briefing on their arrest later in the day.
Helena, a former member of Awami League's sub-committee on women's affairs, recently came into discussion after an announcement through a Facebook post to form "Awami Chakrijibi League" and claiming herself as its president.
She also announced that presidents and general secretaries will be appointed in the district, upazila and overseas units.
As her post went viral on social media, she was sacked from the sub-committee.
