2 arrested with 7.35cr counterfeit Indian rupees

Police arrested two persons with around 7.35 crore counterfeit Indian rupees in Dhaka yesterday.
The arrestees -- Sheikh Abu Taleb and Fatema Akter Opi -- are active members of international fake Indian currency smuggling gang, said police.
"Acting on a tip-off, police first arrested Fatema from the Khilkhet area and based on her information, they recovered the fake notes from a house in Dakshinkhan area," Asaduzzaman, deputy commissioner of Gulshan Division, told a press briefing today.
"Police later arrested Abu Taleb from Sarulia area in Demra," he said.
Abu Taleb smuggled the fake notes with the help of two Pakistani nationals -- Sultan and Shafi -- from Pakistan through Sri Lanka. He later handed 7.34 crore fake notes to Fatema on November 23, he said.
A case was filed with Khilkhet Police Station over yesterday's recovery.
Fatema was accused in another case filed earlier with Motijheel Police Station over the same offence.
