Focus more on agriculture: Matia

Lawmaker Matia Chowdhury today stressed the need for concentrating more on agriculture to ensure a smooth supply of raw materials to the industry.

She said, "For more jobs, we need industrialisation, but for its raw materials, we have to depend on agriculture. So, we have to give more concentration on agriculture to ensure smooth supply of raw materials to the industry."

Matia, also chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on agriculture ministry, was speaking while visiting the office of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) in Dhaka.

At that time, ICAB President Md Shahadat Hossain briefed Matia about the activities of ICAB and its initiatives taken for the development of the financial eco-system of the country.

He said ICAB has been working with the government, especially regarding VAT and Tax administration.

He also demanded more allocation in the upcoming national budget for the development of the agriculture sector.
