Youth killed falling into canal in Ctg

A young man was killed falling into a canal in the Asadganj area of port city this afternoon.

The identity of the deceased could not be known till the filing of the report at 8:15pm.

According to police and local sources, the man, aged around 25, fell into Kalabagicha Canal near Asadganj Dried Fish Hub when he was sitting on the bank of the canal around 3:40pm, reports our Chattogram staff correspondent.

Locals searched the canal and rescued him and took him to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where doctors declared him dead, said Bablu Kumar Paul, in-charge of Patharghata Police Camp.

The man fell into the canal after he slipped as the surface was slippery due to rain, he said. The body has been kept at CMCH morgue, he said.

With this death, at least nine people were killed and many others were injured falling into open drains and canals in port city since 2017.
