Woman, grandson crushed under wheels of CU shuttle

Dhaka rail connectivity snapped

A woman and her grandson were killed when a Chittagong University shuttle train ran over them at the Oxygen area of port city today.

The deceased were identified as Razia Begum, 68, and her grandson Md Sahil, 8, hailing from Bayezid Bostami area of port city, reports our Chattogram staff correspondent quoting police.

The CU-bound shuttle train hit the duo on the bridge over Bamonshahi canal when they were walking on the rail line around 3:30pm, leaving them critically injured, said Mohammed Rafiq, an eyewitness and gateman of the Oxygen Railway gate.

Locals recovered the bodies sent them to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where duty doctors declared them dead on arrival, said Sub-Inspector Nurul Alam, in-charge of the CMCH police outpost.

"We still do not know the cause of the incident," Abhi Sen, assistant station master of Sholshahar Junction, told The Daily Star.
