Univ student, 2 others killed as truck hits rickshaw-van
Three people, including a university student, were killed and two others injured as a truck hit a rickshaw-van at Churamonkati of Jashore Sadar upazila yesterday evening.
The deceased were Farzana Sumi, 24, a student of petroleum and mining engineering department at Jashore University of Science and Technology, Johura Begum, 55, of Jashore Sadar upazila, and three-wheeler driver Sarder Masum Billal, 38.
Quoting witnesses, police said after the axle of the rickshaw-van broke on Jashore-Chowgachha road, a seed-laden truck hit it, killing Sumi and Masum on the spot.
Johura died at Jashore General Hospital.
Sumi's husband Mohtasim Billah, who is also a student of the university, and Johura's husband Amjad Hossain were injured in the accident.
The passengers boarded the three-wheeler in front of the university campus for going to Churamonkati Bazar, police said.
Taijul Islam, officer-in-charge of Jashore Kotwali Police Station, said the injured were admitted to Jashore General Hospital and the three bodies sent to the hospital morgue for autopsies.
