Traffic halted as Bailey bridge collapses in Bagerhat
A sand-laden truck fell into a canal after the bailey bridge collapsed on the Khulna-Mawa old highway in Mollahat upazila of Bagerhat today (October 28, 2022).
Following the incident, the truck driver Md Jaber (32) was injured while all types of traffic remain suspension on this road, reports our Bagerhat correspondent.
Sources at Road and Highway Department (RHD), said that the bridges will be repaired soon by lifting the truck.
Witnesses said the incident happened in Gaola Pagla Bazar area this morning when the truck was going towards Nasukhali from Madrasa ghat in Mollahat upazila. Locals claimed that the truck was loaded with excessive sand.
The truck fell into the canal after it hit the bridge's railing, they said.
Md Farid Uddin, executive engineer of Road and Highway Department, Bagerhat, said that the process of bringing the crane to lift the truck from the canal is underway.
He said the crane will come by night. After the truck is lifted, the repair work of the damaged bridge will be started. Workers and necessary materials are ready to repair the bridge.
"Hopefully we will be able to restore traffic on this road as soon as possible," the engineer added.
