Teenager dies after falling in Ctg city drain
Divers early today recovered the body of the girl who went missing after falling in a roadside drain at Chattogram's Agrabad area last night.
Fire Service divers found the body around 3:10am, about 100 feet away from where she fell, reports our staff correspondent quoting Newtan Das, deputy director of Chattogram Fire Service and Civil Defence.
The deceased Seherin Mahbub Sadia (19) was a first year honours student of computer science department at International Islamic University Chittagong, the fire service official said, adding that she was from Halishahar Barapol area in the city.
She went missing after falling into a roadside drain at Agrabad Badamtali area around 10:10pm yesterday.
She was returning home after buying glasses with her uncle and it was drizzling when the incident happened, said eyewitnesses and fire service officials.
All of a sudden, Sadia slipped and fell into the drain.
Her uncle jumped into the drain immediately to rescue her but could not find her, they said.
Recently, a 50-year-old man went missing as well after falling into a roadside drain at Muradpur area in the port city. The incident happened on August 25.
Citizens and town planners blamed the authority concerned for leaving the drains open and urged them to cover those up with slabs to prevent such accidents. However, most of the city drains are still open.
