Road crash kills two

Two cattle traders were killed in a road accident at Fashitala area on the Rangpur- Dhaka highway early yesterday morning.

The deceased were identified as Moyej Mia (40) and Abdul Kuddus (60).Four other cattle traders were also injured in the accident, and are undergoing treatment at Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex.

All six hail from Savar, said Gobindaganj highway police.

Arif Anowar, station officer of Gobindaganj Fire Service and Civil Defense Station told The Daily Star the accident occurred around 5am, when a pick-up van and a good-laden truck collided head-on.

The pick-up was carrying the six cattle traders from Savar to Rangpur, while the truck was going to Rangpur to Bogura. After the collision, the cattle traders fell on the road, and another truck ran them over.

Khairul Islam, officer-in-charge of Gobindaganj Highway Police Station, said, "The bodies have been handed over to their families. We seized all three vehicles, but their drivers and helpers fled."
