Rickshaw-puller, passenger crushed underneath container in Ctg

Two people were killed after a container fell on a rickshaw from a passing lorry in the port city's Patenga Khalpar area around noon today.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Shakila Soltana, deputy commissioner (port) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police, said the lorry carrying the container was heading to the city's Katghar area from Patenga Police Station road when the incident took place around 12:00noon.

"Suddenly, the iron chain attached to the container tore off and it fell on the rickshaw, killing the rickshaw puller and its passenger on the spot," she said.

On informatio, fire service and police officials conducted a rescue operation and recovered the bodies, she added.

Police seized the lorry and detained its driver after the incident.
