Rail link with Khulna snapped as oil-laden train derails

Rail communication with Khulna has been halted across the country after a compartment of an oil-laden train derailed.

The accident took place around 2:10pm today in front of BGB headquarters in Khulna's Daulatpur area, reports our local correspondent quoting Molla Md Kabir Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Khulna Railway Police Station.

"The train was returning to Khulna from Santahar when four wheels of its rear-guard compartment got derailed. We are conducting rescue operations. We are trying to clear the line and re-establish connectivity with the entire country as soon as possible," the OC said.

Md Shafiqul Islam, in-charge of Daulatpur Railway Police camp, who was present at the spot, said the rescue team has reached the area and is working to remove the compartment.
