One dies as gas cylinder of truck explodes at Mugda filling station
A man died and another suffered injuries after the gas cylinder of a truck exploded at a filling station in Dhaka's Mugda area this morning.
The deceased was identified as Md Saddam, the helper of the truck, said Sub-inspector Ansar Ali, duty officer of Mugda Police Station.
Confirming the incident, Mohammad Jamal Uddin Mir, officer-in-charge of Mugda Police Station, said the incident took place around 5:00am at Best Eastern CNG Filling Station.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Mubaidul Islam said Saddam was standing nearby when the truck's gas cylinder was being refilled at the station. Suddenly, the gas cylinder exploded with a big bang, leaving Saddam dead on the spot, the SI said.
A day labourer who was travelling with the truck was also injured, he said.
SI Mubaidul suspected that the explosion took place either as gas pressure in the cylinder was too high or the date of the cylinder expired.
Police are investigating it, he said.
The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
