Two among the four family members burnt in a fire at their home in Dhaka's Mugda area yesterday, have died.

The deceased are Priyanka Baroi (32) and her son Arup Boidya (5), confirmed Dr SM Ayub Hosen, resident surgeon of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Arup died around 10 last night with 67 percent burn injuries and Priyanka around 2am with 72 percent burns, the doctor said.

They were both being treated at the intensive care unit of the hospital.

The two other victims -- Priyanka's husband Sudhanshu Boidya (35) and her mother Shefali Rani Baroi (55) are in critical state at the hospital, the doctor added.

The fire broke out as Priyanka went to the kitchen and attempted to light the gas stove to boil water yesterday morning.

Ibrahim Khalilullah, a sub-inspector of Mugda Police Station, said they suspected that the fire originated as leaked gas accumulated in the kitchen came in contact with fire.
